Royal Golf Hotel****- Dornoch

If you are planning a trip to Dornoch there is no better (nor more convenient) place to stay than the Royal Golf Hotel that sits right beside Royal Dornoch's putting Green and First Tee!

The small hotel has a charming 'country house' feel with individually shaped and styled bedrooms (some modern, others traditional) and a very warm welcome as soon as you cross the threshold.

The Royal Golf Hotel's bar, although newly decorated, has retained all the old furniture and little touches that gave it its soul.  The restaurant is more modern in style with big windows overlooking Royal Dornoch's Clubhouse and the Firth of Dornoch beyond.  The cuisine, however, is reliably traditional with plenty of Scottish staples (salmon, venison etc.) on the menu and is probably the best place to dine in Dornoch (even if you're not staying here).

Dornoch Castle***- Dornoch

For simple accommodation in Dornoch the Dornoch Castle Hotel in the centre of the small town is the direction to head.

The original small castle has been extended over the years and sits in the centre of Dornoch with car parking in the street in front.  Here you will find straightforward bedrooms that are comfortable and cosy.  Downstairs there is a small bar that doubles as a coffee shop during the daylight hours.  Behind the bar is the dining room that offers good food at reasonable prices.

Not a luxurious hotel by any stretch of the imagination but a warm, friendly and welcoming base from which to play Royal Dornoch and the other courses around the Dornoch area.

N.B.  The hotel owners have recently started making whisky next door: just need to wait twelve years to taste it...

Glenmoriston Hotel***- Inverness

A townhouse style hotel on the riverside in the very centre of Inverness, just a two-minute stroll along the river to the main shopping and dining areas of the small city.

The Glenmoriston Hotel is an ideal Inverness city base with nicely decorated and well furnished bedrooms.  Bathrooms are good too, bright and clean following a recent makeover.

The hotel now spreads across two buildings with its own car-park in between (very handy in Inverness).

There is a small bar in the main house and an excellent restaurant too: what more could one want?

Boat Hotel***- Boat of Garten

The ultimate Highland hideaway?  We think so.  If you like the idea of staying in the Cairngorms National Park and playing a round or two at the fabulous Boat of Garten Golf Club there is no better place to rest your head.

The Boat Hotel, once the town's only watering hole,  is these days more akin to a boutique hotel with quaint rooms, a large bar and a very good restaurant!

All of the bedrooms and bathrooms are of different shapes and sizes (some are very original) the one thing they have in common is good quality furniture and well appointed bathrooms.  There has been a small extension to the property wherein there are four, slightly larger garden rooms that open out onto their own small patios.

The bar has roaring fires and the restaurant a delicious menu so you will be well catered for after a day out and about in the fresh mountain air.

One of the unique features of the Boat Hotel is the Speyside Steam Railway that stops beside the hotel - a beautiful sight as it chugs through the glens and the ideal way to visit Aviemore or the Speyside whisky trail.
