Marine Hotel North Berwick****

Overlooking the fine golf course of North Berwick, MacDonalds Marine Hotel is perfectly placed for golfers visiting this part of the golfing world.  It is also a very comfortable hotel that has had a lot of money spent on it over the last few years bringing it up to modern standards yet retaining pride in its tradition and that of this renowned golfing town.

The bedrooms are a good size and many look out across the 16th Fairway to the sea (please request a sea-view room when booking, for which there is a small supplement).  The reception, bar and restaurant have all been decorated in muted colours that gives the Marine Hotel a very Golf Club like feel about the place.  The restaurant is excellent and serves traditional Scottish fare - all of which is sourced as locally as possible.

For additional relaxation (or exercise) there is a medium-sized indoor pool plus a salt-water hydro pool, gymnasium and a full range of spa treatments available in addition to the various saunas and steam rooms.

Should you wish to venture out of an evening, the town is only a ten-minute stroll away or the Concierge will gladly hail you a cab.

Greywalls Hotel**** - Muirfield

Tucked away beside the Muirfield Clubhouse is the cosy little Greywalls hotel.  Much more of a country house than a hotel in truth, Greywalls' intimate charm will wrap you in a cloak of Scottish hospitality and personal service from the moment you cross the threshold.

The bedrooms are traditionally furnished, each one different from the next in both shape and design.  There are some dedicated Single rooms too, which are great value for single-sex parties (or snorers!).

The tiny bar is the ideal spot for a drink before dinner in the Chez Roux restaurant (one of the best in East Lothian) or you may sit and sup in one of Greywalls' sitting rooms or library: like any country mansion worth its salt, there are plenty of softly-furnished withdrawing rooms to choose between.

Residents at Greywalls do have enhanced access to golf at Muirfield (notoriously difficult) with a few extra Tee-times reserved for the hotel.  A real 'home from home' for golfers in this part of Scotland - especially for those who have fallen under Muirfield's spell.

Bellhaven Guesthouse

Bellhaven Hotel - North BerwickBacking onto the North Berwick Clubhouse is the cosy Bellhaven Hotel.  More of a guesthouse than a hotel as you will be looked after by the owners Eve and Dave Gerald in the comfort of one of their nine rooms.  Eve is an architect by profession, so the house has some nice artistic touches to its interior design and furnishings.  If you like a view (and don't mind low ceilings), then ask us to reserve the top room for you.Bellhaven Hotel - North Berwick

A good Scottish breakfast will be served to you each morning and for dining the variety of restaurants and pubs that North Berwick has to offer is on your doorstep.

Open Arms**** - Dirleton

The Open Arms - DirletonThe Open Arms - Dirleton

Dirleton is a delightfully peaceful village that is wedged between North Berwick and Muirfield.  Overlooking the green in the centre of the village and opposite the caste ruins is the Open Arms - a charming boutique hotel with just 20 rooms.

Although not an old hotel by any means, its carefully styled interior is reminiscent of older, grander hotels - without the pitfalls of aged accommodation!

Bedrooms are not huge but large enough for Double rooms and bathrooms have recently been refurbished.

The Open Arms prides itself on its cuisine and is well known amongst the locals of Gullane and North Berwick.  So you are assured of a good dinner in the main library-style restaurant, out in the conservatory or for small parties of a dozen perhaps the private dining room?
