GOLF HOLIDAYS ZELL AM SEE
The best Zell am See golf courses for Austrian golfbreaks.

Zell am See
- Schmittenhöhe Architect D. Harradine. 18 holes: 6,262m: Par 72.
One of Austria's foremost Golf Clubs with 36-holes of golf spread across the broad, flat plain between Zell am See and Kaprun. The two courses are ringed by stunning mountain ranges from whence they take their names. The Schmittenhöhe course is the original and generally regarded as the sterner test; characterised by narrower Fairways (they seem to reduce in size as the round progresses!) magnificent trees and a sprinkling of original farmer's hay barns - a unique, and absolutely immovable, Austrian obstruction!
Zell am See - Kitzsteinhorn Architect D. Harradine. 18 holes: 6,003m: Par 73.
Kitzsteinhorn is a slightly more recent addition to Zell am See Golf Club; it offers a little more elbow-room along its Fairways albeit bordered by frightening rough! Both courses have their fair share of water features: Kitzsteinhorn however has a lot more in play with its larger lakes. Both courses are a fun test of golf. The Clubhouse is modern with plenty of room on the patio for a sunny lunch in a spectacular setting encircled by Alpine glaciers.
Urslautaal Architect: K. Preston 18 holes: 5,967m: Par 71.
The first few holes twist-and-turn through the farms behind the Clubhouse, the course then moves out onto some breathtaking terrain with holes running alongside the stark peaks of the Steinernen Meer ridge that characterises the region of Pinzgau: often covered in snow even in mid-Summer. A great variety of holes that provide plenty of exercise both physically and mentally! The compact Clubhouse has an very inviting patio for post-round relaxation where you can sip a foaming lager and watch the setting sun turn the granite rockface as orange as the local pumpkins.
Mittersill (Hohe Tauern) Architect: G. Moser. 18 holes: 5,666m: Par: 70.
Bucolic bliss across the flood plain of the Salzach river: holes criss-cross the streams and waterways where the land has been well-drained to create this pastoral test of golf. Not the longest, possibly the flattest, course in Austria; clever iron-play will be required to negotiate the streams and island greens. A course for quiet contemplation - accompanied by resounding cowbells! Recently rebranded as Hohe Tauern National Park Golf Club (catchy, eh?) but everyone knows it as Mittersill Golf Club!
Gut Brandlhof Architect: D. Harradine. 18 holes: 6,042m: Par 72.
Sheer rockfaces peer down at you from both sides of this narrow valley. The course itself jumps backwards and forwards over the river which comes into play on nearly every hole. Kill or cure for those with claustro or aqua phobia!
Other courses within striking distance:
| Kitzbuhel-Schwarzsee
Just outside the famous ski-town a course that begins with 12-holes on the flat then climbs rapidly into the hills providing some severley testing holes over the closing stages. |
