GOLF HOLIDAY HOTELS - POOLE & BOURNEMOUTH
Where to stay on your Dorset golfbreak.
Hotel du Vin**** - Poole
The smartest hotel in Poole without a doubt. The Hotel du Vin offers a very comfortable base for your Dorset golfbreak, sitting right in the centre of Poole from where you can stroll the quayside and the High Street shops and cafés at your ease.
The Hotel du Vin is a successful group of hotels that aspire to a superior level of elegance and charm: they achieve their aspirations in a traditional style in keeping with their French connections. You will notice this on arrival and when you are shown to your classically decorated and furnished bedroom with their modern bathrooms.
In addition to the charming interior, there is a small garden at the rear of the hotel for quiet moments en plein air - perhaps with a refreshment from the waiter-service bar?
Victuals are vitally important at the Hotel du Vin, where they take great pride in their brasserie style menu and service. If you wish to dine out there are plenty of other restaurants in Poole too and, as always, we shall start you off with a few of our recommendations to chew over. Being a 'wine hotel' there is an extensive choice of fine wines to choose from and if you are serious about the subject, tastings can be arranged in their atmospheric cellar.
The Dorset Golf Resort****
Hidden in the forest between Bere Regis and Corfe Castle is a rather different kind of a golf resort. The Dorset Golf Resort has 27-holes of excellent parkland golf and a variety of accommodation to offer you: traditional hotel rooms, a couple of brick-built houses and, the star of the show, a dozen Norwegian log cabins that are remarkably spacious, comfortable and very solid!
Most golfers opt for the three/four-bedroom cottages at The Dorset and it's easy to understand why. Constructed in Scandinavia from dense local pine, they have three en-suite bedrooms (plus a fourth twin room), a large sitting room with a plenty of space for a full-size dining table, an ample, well-equipped, kitchen, balconies on the upper floor and even your own sauna: luxury in wood.
Although the Scandinavian cottages are the most sought-after rooms at the resort there are two brick houses as well that offer the same levels of comfort with en-suite bedrooms and self-catering facilities. There is also the original hotel building (and indoor bowls arena) where there are standard three-star bedrooms for those who prefer to dine out or over at the Clubhouse every evening.
The Clubhouse at the Dorset Golf Resort operates both day and night, so you will not be short of food or drink. The Clubhouse offers a good menu beth at the bar and in their large dining room. Dinners can be pre-arranged for you, which is particularly useful with large parties. If you would like to dine-out there are some other restaurants not too far away - a lthough a car or taxi journey will be necessary.
Connaught Hotel**** - Bournemouth
From the outside the Connaught Hotel in the centre of Bournemouth might be a little unprepossessing, however once you step inside you will realise why we regard it as the best hotel in Bournemouth for golf holidays. A lot of money has been spent on a total overhaul of the interior and it is now the most modern and stylish accommodation in town.
Common spaces are openplan and bright and airy; bedrooms and bathrooms have been restyled in light, pastel shades with the latest in marbelised bathrooms too.
The Connaught prides itself on its cuisine and if you are by any means a 'foodie' then you really should look no further than the spacious dining room with its seasonal menu. It's very refreshing to find an English hotel that places so much importance on its restaurant.
Another great feature of the Connaught is the pool and spa tucked away in the basement. After a few days golf a relaxing swim (or even a massage) can be just the thing to revitalise those swing muscles ready for the next day's action.
