A British classic. The angular, whitewashed Sauntons Sands Hotel stands like a benign matron overlooking the fun and games on the vast expanse of golden sand below.
The hotel is a fine example of 1920s art-deco. However, the current owners (Brend Hotels) ensure that it is refreshed and renewed on a regular basis - so that you will be too. They have added some great new features such as the indoor pool and small spa area or the outdoor smoker for dining on the patio alongside the pool on balmy Devon Summer evenings.
Bedrooms are kept up-to-date too with a continual programme of redecoration. Single-sex groups will be pleased to know that there are some dedicated Single rooms that avoid the usual supplements for sole use of a Double room. But please book early as they disappear fast!
The Saunton Sands Hotel has a very good restaurant with plenty of local produce (particularly fish) and lovely views over the beach and golf course from the bright dining room. Simpler food is also available in the relaxed atmosphere of the comfortable, downstairs bar.
