TREVOSE & ST. ENODOC GOLF HOLIDAYS
Reviews of the best golf courses for golfbreaks in North Cornwall.
A mild and approachable links course on a Summer's day with plenty of run on the sun-baked Fairways but a when the winds blows Trevose can turn into a card-shredding monster! One of those courses where the most scenic holes come early in the round as you play out along the shore and down into Constantine Bay. Turning inland for the back nine and a more agrestic setting against the backdrop of rolling Cornish farmland. The perfect course for holiday golf that you will be happy to take-on time and time again.
N.B. Trevose also has a gentle 9-hole 'Headland Course' and a wee par-3 course as well.
St. Enodoc Architect: J. Braid (1892) 18 holes: 6,299yds: par 69.An amazing stretch of land that sets you off straight into some of the largest dunes in England as you wend your way to the First Green. The hills and hummocks continue with blind shots here and there, none more so than the Tee shot over (or around) the daunting Himalaya bunker on the 6th Tee shot. There follows a more pastoral series of holes around John Betjeman's favourite chapel before returning via some beautiful holes along the Camel estuary to the sanctuary of the Clubhouse: quite a trip!
Perranporth Architect: J. Braid (1929) 18 holes: 5,722yds: par 72.
A very natural links course with few alterations to the landscape apart from 18 little holes with flags in! Wild and windy with wonderful sea views, Perranporth is deceptive at first sight: bunkers are scarce but hazards are plentiful. - just how golf used to be.
Other courses to consider
Newquay - A little down the coast to the surfer's paradise of Newquay where there's a James Braid course on a fairly small patch of land overlooking the beach (and close to the town centre).
Bude - Similar to the above: a fun little holiday course in the centre of town.
Lannhydrock - 18-holes and a nice little hotel in an inland setting.
St. Mellion - A rather demanding test set by one Jack Nicklaus with an hotel on-site.
