THE BEST HOTELS FOR COSTA DAURADA GOLF HOLIDAYS
Including: Tarragona & Port Cambrils.
Hotel Sol Port Cambrils****
A recent, and rather overdue, addition to the selection of hotels in the resort town of Port Cambrils; the Sol hotel (run by the Spanish hoteliers Melia) offers a convenient and very comfortable modem base for golfers on the Costa Dorada.
Set back two or three streets from the seafront, the Sol Port Cambrils (formerly the Tryp) has 132 rooms all with balconies either overlooking the pool or over the town and out to sea. Bedrooms are well furnished and practical too with new marble bathrooms throughout.
The ground floor is open-plan, so the Reception flows seamlessly around into the lounge and bar and on outside to the terrace - the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening drinks.
The Sol Port Cambrils has a lower courtyard too (often used for functions) an extension to the restaurant where breakfast and dinner are served each day. One of the big attractions of the Sol is the pool and private sun bathing area - even though the beach is only 300 yards away! Everything you need for your Costa Daurada golf holiday and in exactly the right place!
H10 Imperial Tarraco****
Placed on the high side of Tarragona beside the Roman amphitheatre and the old city walls, the H10 Imperial Tarraco hotel allows you to mix the fabulous golf courses of the Costa Dorada region with the cultural and epicurean attractions of this largely unknown town.
The H10 is a thoroughly modern hotel having been totally made-over in 2020 (nothing remains to be seen of the old Husa hotel!). It offers a host of luxuries: bedrooms with sea-views and balconies overlooking the beaches below, bright new bathrooms, outdoor pool and sun-deck, swish lobby bar and an excellent restaurant in its sun-soaked conservatory.
Another reason for basing your Costa Dorada golf holiday at the H10 is the location (and its cheap car-parking!) - right beside the entrance to the old town. This means that you can wander the ancient, narrow streets and plaças, crammed with cafés, tapas bars and restaurants at ease as well as the modern boulevards of boutiques outside the walls. A word of warning though, the hotel does have a casino attached! (With a free drink on arrival).
There is a stylish lobby bar at the hotel for your party to regroup before dinner - either in the hotel's own restaurant or across the road at any of a number of outstanding places to dine within the Roman walls that lie just outside where a labyrinth of tapas bars and restaurants lie in wait in the old quarter of Tarragona...
