GOLFING HOLIDAYS IN SEVILLE
Our recommended Golf Clubs for your Seville golfbreak.
The flagship Golf Club in Seville, thrice host to the Spanish Open. Not that old, but masterfully designed by Snr. Olazábal to enchant and entertain in equal measure. The whole set-up just oozes class and quality from the moment you pass through the entrance gates. The terrain was pretty much flat so José-María incorporated a little earth movement here-and-there into his design, subtley done however to add rather than detract from the landscape. At the 'signature' par-3 3rd however he indulged himself somewhat! In general the course has excellent variety and balance with sand, water and plenty of palms planted between Fairways to show the line and offer shade too. Greens are often on the small side of generous, so your short game is sure to be called on during your round. A well-funded Club so always in great condition and with a fine Clubhouse. N.B. They now have a hotel on-site too.
Real PiÑeda Architect: R & F.M. Benjumea (1939). 18 holes: 6,037m: par 72.A fully enclosed oasis of verdancy encircled by a rather dubious area of Seville considering the enormous wealth of members that come here every day to play golf, go horse-riding, play tennis or the latest Spanish craze - crown-green bowls! Real Piñeda is always a busy place with plenty of members going about their sporting business, which means the swanky Clubhouse has a nice lively feeling to it. The course itself is easy to walk betwoon the avenuse of pines that delineate the Fairways. Fairways that are often dog-legged or gently curving so some thought (and deftness!) from the Tee is required. Greens are small and have recently been re-constructed with modern grasses, which means they are very true and can be very fast. A Club with a wonderfully exclusive feel, helped no doubt by the limited availability for visitors but we'll do our best to get you on.
Zaudin Architect: G. Player (1993). 18 holes: 6,192m: par 71.The newest of Seville's three main courses was etched on the lanscape by none other than Gary Player - so you can expect plenty of sand! The land was originally a large olive grove just to the Southwest of Seville and hundreds of stumpy olives still cover the course engendering a very Spanish feel. To add some arboreal variey (and a little shade) palms have been added across the course which adds a certain tropical air to the Fairways. In general the course is fairly open so enjoyable to play as the game keeps moving - unless you have the misfortune to find one of the large lakes. The openess also means however that it can get quite warm in the Summer months, so an early or late start is advisable from June to September and/or a buggy maybe? Zaudin has a very attractive hacienda style Clubhouse created in the old olive farm buildings.
