Wednesday 24th May A full day off to relax and soak up the beauty of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding hills. In Arona or Stresa you can catch the frequent ferries out to Lake Maggiore's islands - Isole Bella, Madre and Pescatore for a stroll through their palaces and gardens or savour the flavours of one of their many restaurants. You could also head off for a tour of the lake-shore or up and over through the national park to charming little Lake Orta. |

Thursday 25th May Morning: Third competition round at Bogogno G.C. Designed by Robert van Hagge in 1997 Bogogno feels a lot older due to the dense mature woodland that lines every hole. Castello dal PozzoThe Castello dal Pozzo sits in its own park just outside the village of Oleggio Castello on the hillside above Arona and Lake Maggiore. The ancient Castello has a long history dating back to Roman times and a base of the Fifth Legion. Thought to have originated around the year 1000 it has been remodeled and restructured a few times since, gaining its current form in the mid-1800's. The Castello is now widely recognised as one of the finest examples of neo-gothic architecture. You will be more than welcome to visit (with a guide if you like) during the week. The Palazzo was added beside the Castello in the 17th Century as a residence for the Viscount of Aragaon (who is buried in the local cemetery). Both buildings have has been owned by the Dal Pozzo family for the last six-generations. The Palazzo has a varied history having served in recent times as billets during the wars and as the local school thereafter. After a period of disuse the Palazzo has been extended and converted into a luxury boutique hotel with contemporary bedrooms mixed with traditional areas such as the lounge bar and restaurant. One of Italy's growing band of boutique hotels that is superbly placed for visiting Lake Maggiore and discovering its golfing possibilities. |
