THE BEST HOTELS FOR GOLF BREAKS IN MONS
Where to stay on your golf holiday in Mons, Belgium.
The Lido Hotel****
Just outside the historic centre of Mons, the Lido hotel is perfectly placed to enable you to drive out to the golf courses easily each day and dive into the main square in the evening for drinks and dinner.
A bright, modern hotel with a business-like feel, the Lido offers some of the best accommodation in Mons, a good breakfast, a small bar (ideal for pre-dinner drinks) and underground parking.
Bedrooms come in two styles: Standard, which are practical and comfortable or Executive in the new wing where the accent is more on style and colour tone. All bedrooms have good quality new or refurbished bathrooms: so the choice really is all down to décor!
The Lido Mons hotel also has a fitness room on the top floor (which may or may not attract you) and also a small jacuzzi tub and sauna.
St. James***
A friendly little townhouse hotel in one of the old red-brick houses of Mons: externally very traditional in appearance, internally it has been given a complete makeover with some nice modern touches to the decor.
At the rear of the building there is a small courtyard with a few parking spaces and an annexe building where the bedrooms are simpler in style, but still perfectly comfortable.
The Saint James hotel occupies an ideal position in Mons: at the bottom of one of the town's main streets for wining and dining - Rue Havré - which runs from the hotel up into La Grand Place - all very strollable.
The Saint James does not have a restaurant (which is not a problem with the multitudinous choices on offer), just a sunny breakfast room.
Mercure Mons****
The Mercure Mons hotels is an out of town option, situated in the forest of Nimy, almost exactly halfway between the centre of Mons and Royal Hainaut Golf Club.
The hotel is modern and business like with an open-plan ground floor that comprises the reception, bar, and restaurant. In addition, there are one or two more leisurely features, such as the outdoor pool and a reputable restaurant Le Lumeçon.
Bedrooms and bathrooms are larger than other hotels in Mons and equipped with mini-bars and air-conditioning (as you would expect for its four stars).
There is plenty of parking outside the hotel and getting to Royal Hainaut could not be easier (the road through the forest takes you right to it) with Mont Garni not much further away. Heading in the other direction, the motorway is easily accessed at the bottom of the hill to get to the other golf courses at La Tournette and Rigenée.
