Albergo Terminus****
In our opinion, the most refined hotel in Como with one of the finest lakeside locations - right on the lake edge in front of the embarcadero. The Albergo Terminus burst onto the Como hotel scene a few years ago and has upped the standards of accommodation in town significantly with its stately grace and charm.
Bedrooms at the Albergo Terminus come in two distinct styles: modern or traditional. The standard rooms (and bathrooms) were all totally renovated when the hotel was converted from a private residence to an hotel. Some of the larger rooms and Suites have, on the other hand, retained an air of old Italian grace. Whichever room style you choose, you will be most comfortable.
The Albergo's restaurant is a clever affair, half-indoor/half-outdoor with its useful retractable roof providing shade in the Summer and protection from the elements in the Wintry months. Underneath this cunning canopy, both the service and food are excellent. For dining out, Como's panoply of restaurants are on your doorstep.
The Albergo Terminus is set back from the main lakeside road, so nice and quiet inside tho solid stone walls. This also allows space for a pretty garden that is bedecked with sun loungers: the ideal place for relaxing with an aperitivo from the charming little bar and watching the Como world go by. Underneath the garden a large car park has been excavated so you can tuck your car away simply and safely every night.
Le Due Corti****
The oldest (and arguably the quaintest/quirkiest!) hotel in Como that will charm you with a few surprises hidden behind is plain pink façade. It is located across the road from the southern gate in the medieval walls of Como: a great location for strolling through the old town down to the lake and for avoiding most of the one-way system when heading out to the golf courses each day.
The hotel was entirely renovated by its saviour, the charismatic Giovanni. He has now retired and passed the reins on to a small chain of well-run Italian hotels who are caring for his legacy with pride.
The hotel bedrooms feature original wooden or tiled ceilings (the tiles were purportedly 'borrowed' from a local Roman ruin when the place was built!), many feature exposed stone walls too and all exude the unique charm of the traditional building.
There is a small bar at the Due Corti with tables and chairs set out around the pool. No restaurant however, but just across the road are myriad trattorie, pizzerie, ristorante and caffés: so finding good food is not really a problem!
The inner courtyard provides parking for the hotel and also houses the small pool, ideal for a cooling dip after a hot day's golf. Below ground there is a vaulted cellar - ideal for private functions, plus a small wine cellar where wine tastings or dinners can be arranged for groups of up to twenty or so. An ideal place to learn more about the, very palatable, wines of Lombardy.
Albergo Posta***
The most centrally-placed hotel in Como - on the edge of Piazza Volta one of the beating hearts of Como encircled by ristorante and from where the whole of the medieval town is within walking distance including the lakeshore from where the busy passenger ferries will whisk you away up the lake.
La Posta was once Como's Post Office (hence the name and its central location); nowadays it is an intimate hotel with just fourteen bedrooms. Indeed, some golfing groups take over the whole place: a real house party! Bedrooms are well-sized, so fine as Twins, plus there are a couple of smaller individual rooms. Bathrooms are brand new and sensibly all have walk-in showers.
Being so central in Como, vehicle access is a limited. If you have your own car the nearest underground car-park is about 300m away: if you are using our transfer service then there's no problem at all!
L'Abergo Posta has a nice sittle bar and outdoor decking on the edge of the square. This sunny patio is the perfect
spot apres-golf to while away an hour or two watching the gentlefolk of Como
taking their "passeggiata". This is also where you will enjoy an Italian breakfast each morning: plenty of foaming cappucini and delicious cakes in the true Lombardian style. Later, when it comes to dining, all of the fabulous restaurants of Como surround you, it will be hard to choose but we will give you a few pointers to guide your taste buds along the way.
