Golf holidays in El Jadida & Mazagan
El Jadida and Mazagan together make a superb year-round golf holiday destination - even in the heat of Summer! This part of Morocco, sitting on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, enjoys a wonderful climate and never gets too hot for golf, even in the summer months when temperatures can soar into the 100s in Marrakech the ocean breezes maintain a steady 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit out on the coast.
The town of El Jadida is not as developed touristically as Marrakech and there is a real feel of old Morocco about the town and port. There is a new section of town along the sea front which is quite westernised in addition to the old Portugeuse Medinah. We are sure that with the influx of more and more tourists to the area El Jadida will continue improving and modernising, although the traditional Medinah is unlikely to change too much (a la Marrakech).
Mazagan is not a town as such, it is just the old Arabic name for the region, from where the new five-star resort takes its name.
El Jadida & Mazagan golf courses
There are two courses in the area, which makes it quite a small golf destination! However, both Royal El Jadida and Mazagan are well worth playing twice and the fact that they are in very contrasting styles adds a lot of variety to the 36 holes on offer.
Royal El Jadida has a very natural feel to the course with the holes working there way through the woods and along the coastline.
Mazagan is more manufactured and exposed to the ocean breezes with hardly a tree in sight around the course. Designed by Gary Player, it's also the tougher test of the two.
El Jadida & Mazagan - where to stay
There are basically two places to stay: the modern luxury resort at Mazagan (above) with its 18-holes on-site, numerous restaurants and even a casino or the older Pullman at El Jadida (below), which dates form the 1980s and has more af an old French colonial ambience to it.
Both are nice places to stay with pools and spas; Mazagan suiting those who prefer to stay in a resort-style estate with everything you could wish for within the walls, El Jadida will please those who want to delve into the local culture more and venture out into the Medinah and Souk of the town.
Getting to El Jadida & Mazagan
Although there are no direct flights to Mazagan or El Jadida, the two are easy enought to reach from the UK with many flights direct to Casablanca, which is about an hour's drive north or to Marrakech, which is two hours away on the new motorway.
British Airways, Royal Air Maroc and EasyJet all offer flights from the UK. Additionally, as they are popular French destinations, Air France offers connections from regional airports as do Air Portugal and others.
