Villa Mazarin**** - Aigues Mortes
Villa Mazarin**** - Aigues Mortes

Within the walls of Aigues Mortes the Villa Mazarin is as old as the town itself.  The new owners however have updated this fine central property and it is once again the best place to stay in Aigues Mortes.

The feel is quite stately as you pass inside under the stone archways, rightly so as during the 15th Century this was the home of Cardinal Mazarin.

There are 23 bedrooms in total within the hotel, arranged around a peaceful courtyard garden.  All the rooms are individually styled and furnished, adding to the stately home feel.

The restaurant at the Villa Mazarin is truly gastronomic with dishes elaborated by the head chef Stéphane Rouville.  More traditional Camarguais fare can be found all around the Villa at any of the two dozen restaurants within the walls of Aigues Mortes.

One side of the courtyard garden encloses a small pool and jacuzzi with sliding windows that open out onto the garden area.  For a Mediterranean dip the beaches are only a short drive away.

For parking, there is a small garage (with a steep entrance!) behind the hotel or spaces can be found in the side streets of Aigues Mortes.

Domaine de Massane*** - Baillargues

Domaine de Massane*** - Baillargues
Tucked away outside the town of Montpellier on the edge of the sleepy village of Baillargues, le Domaine de Massane is quite isolated yet well positioned for the other courses in the area that complement its own.

The bedrooms are built in groups around the central reception, pool, bar, restaurant and clubhouse giving an open air feeling to this modern hotel complex.

Breakfast is served in the central restaurant building, which is open for dinner every evening; other dining options are to be found a short drive away down on the beachfront.

Jules Cesar Hotel ***** - Arles

Jules Cesar***** - Arles
An astonishing luxury hotel in the centre of Arles whose classic exterior belies the riot of colour to be found within!  The Jules Cesar has received a total makeover and now the entire palette of colour has been utilised across the lobby, bar, restaurant and bedrooms.  Only the exterior and the courtyard garden retain their original neutral shades.

This use of colour, gives the hotel a youthful joyous air, reflecting the spirit of Arles with its lively and friendly inhabitants.

Bedrooms are thoroughly modern with additional touches like iPod docks and Nespresso machines.  Bathrooms are bright white and mostly with rain showers (although some baths still persist).  The standard rooms are on the lower ground floor ranged around the old cloisters, hence having a more traditional colour scheme.

The hotel restaurant serves high-class Provençal cuisine without really spilling over into exorbitant gastronomy.  The many other restaurants of Arles lie just beyond the door.

Outside, a small pool is tucked away in a corner of the rear garden, a quiet spot for whiling away a post-round hour or two on the brightly coloured sun loungers.

Parking is taken care off by the concierge, so there is no need to hunt for a space yourself.

The Atrium Arles is a solid three-star hotel, centrally located that offers good quality accommodation and has a few surprises up its corridors...

The Atrium is a modern building and although the exterior is a little utilitarian, inside it is welcoming and comfortable.  The location is excellent too with the whole of Arles on your doorstep.

The bedrooms are well proportioned for a three-star hotel and have been very well furnished with good beds and air conditioning so you are assured of a  good night's sleep.  Bathrooms have some elbow room too and all have bathtubs with showers overhead.

Breakfast is served in the large dining room and dinner is available here too from a fairly simple menu, that represents good value.  However within a five-minute stroll you can be in the old Forum, surrounded by other diners.

One of the big surprises at the hotel is the rooftop pool and patio area.  A great place for a refreshing dip and a view over the rooftops of Arles.

The Atrium hotel also benefits from its own car park.  So all in all, it has just about everything you might require for golf holiday in the heart of Provence!

Du Cote des Olivades**** - Le Paradou

A small family run hotel with just ten rooms built in the Provençal style just outside the little town of Le Paradou. The hotel is particularly handy for Servanes and Manville golf courses and a real 'heart of Provence' holiday.

André Bourguignon, a restaurateur by trade, owns and runs the hotel aided and abetted by his daughter.  They take great pride in ensuring that the food served is only the very best, personally searching the local markets for the finest produce.

A splendid new addition to the hotel is the spa complex with its 14 extra, very modern rooms; making Du Cote des Olivades even more relaxing!

The Artea hotel is very much a town centre hotel in Aix-en-Provence.  It provides, good, comfortable accommodation in the middle of town with its own car parking arrangemants (in the nearby underground car park).  As such, it makes a convenient base for getting out to the golf courses each day and going out for dinner every evening.

Bedrooms are clean and tidy, staff are friendly and helpful, location is perfect.

Moulin de Vernegues****- Pont Royal

Since the beginning of the 13th Century there has been a water mill on this site as is seen from the ancient cellars of today’s hotel. The current building stands beside the second green of Seve’s Pont Royal course and has been returned to its once regal splendour (and significantly extended!).

The shady terrace overlooking the pool is ideal for lunch and from this cool vantage point you may observe the fortunes of passing golfers battling with the tricky second, before trying it yourself.
