Marine Hotel Troon
Marine Hotel Troon****

Standing right beside the Clubhouse at Royal Troon and overlooking the 18th Fairway, the Marine Hotel at Troon is not only the place to stay in Troon, but is also very good value for a quality four-star hotel.

Over the years all the great names in golf have stayed here to play The Open Championship, so you will be treading in the footsteps of greatness - we can't promise that you will inherit their swings, but it can't do any harm!

The hotel has been sensibly refurbished over the years and its new owners the Spanish Barceló group have wisely retained most of the original feel - just in a more modern fashion: in keeping with the history of the place.

A new wing has been added that houses a good sized indoor pool and spa area along with gymnasium (should you feel the need).

The restaurant offer sensibly priced dining along with the best golfing view in town.  If you do want to head into town for an evening out, taxis will take five minutes as realistically it is a little too far to walk.

A great base for the two courses at Troon, plus Prestwick, Kilmarnock, Western Gailes et al and close enough to play at Turnberry too.

Parkstone Hotel Prestwick***

Facing the sea, just 100 yards from the entrance to Prestwick Golf Club, two minutes to Prestwick St. Nicholas and five minutes to Prestwick St. Cuthberts; the Parkstone Hotel has the prime location in Prestwick for golf holidays.

The hotel has been in the same family for a generation has been nicely updated without throwing out all of the traditional Scottishness along the way.  At the Parkstone you will really feel like you are in Scotland and amongst the Scottish.  Stewart, the owner and a Member at Prestwick, is ever present to look after you and share his wealth of local golfing knowledge.

The Parkstone has a bar with a seafront patio garden for the Summer and a snug lounge with a coal fire for the Winter months.  The restaurant is just off the bar and serves good food (lots of local fish) in a snug atmosphere.  It is also one of the few places in Prestwick where you can dine outside overlooking the sea when the weather is fine.

Breakfast is served in the bright function Suite and offers a goodly array of cereals and fruits plus of course the full Scottish option, or maybe Kippers or Haddock if that takes your fancy?

Prestwick's Main Street is only a five-minute walk away and has plenty a dozen or more pubs and restaurants for dining out.

The Dormie House - Prestwick

The Dormie House is one of the few four-star Guesthouses in Prestwick and aims to provide the best in local B&B style accommodation.

Owned and run by Marilyn and Peter Brown (incidentally, Peter is a long standing Member at Prestwick) it is situated at the southern end of the Main Street in Prestwick, behind the red-brick houses that line the road in from Ayr.

Set back from the main road in a walled garden, it is a quiet residence, yet only five minutes walk to the centre of town and a good choice of restaurants and bars.

The Dormie House is of modern construction so solid, warm and draught-proof!  There are just three bedrooms and the owners live in, so are never far away for any help or advice you may need.

Peter can also provide transport services for your party with their six-seater Renault Espace; other facilities include a self-serve/self-stocked bar, third-size snooker table and DVD library.

Guest Comments

"I want to thank you very much for organising our successful trip to Royal Troon. Judging by the members responses I have personally received it was a total hit. The golf course recommendations, the hotel and the dinner at Royal Troon Clubhouse could not have been bettered and, even the golf widows present found plenty to do in the area. Your attention to detail was second to none and ensured the smooth running of the whole event. Someone even organised the weather, was it you?????
It has been a pleasure dealing with you and, based on this performance and La Baule, we will no doubt meet again at future HGS events.
Best wishes, Phil"
